The Tooling & Manufacturing Association (TMA)

The Tooling & Manufacturing Association was founded in 1925 by 8 small manufacturing companies who thought they could better themselves by associating with one another. Through the years, members established programs and services that would help their businesses grow and prosper, train their employees and provide medical benefits. As a result of these efforts, TMA has grown into a 1,600+ member not-for-profit organization of precision metalworking, plastic molding, and supplier companies in the Chicago area.

Purpose:

To train and educate member company personnel
To provide useful information
To pool member company purchasing power
To represent and promote the interests of members in marketing, public relations and public affairs
To serve as a clearinghouse and forum for the exchange of ideas
To foster a sense of mutual support and unity among the TMA membership

What types of companies are members?
Member companies range in size from one person sole proprietorships to large multi-plant corporations.

Regular members include:

tool & die, mold, and special machine builders
precision machining and general job shop machine plants
manufacturers of stampings, plastic moldings, castings, precision sheetmetal components, and screw machine products
heat treaters, platers, polishers, engravers, finishers, and grinders
contract or proprietary product manufacturers having captive toolroom, machine shop, metalworking, or plastic molding operations

Associate members include:

businesses providing services, equipment, machinery, or materials unique to Regular member companies

Affiliate members include:

businesses providing services, equipment, or materials to companies that qualify as TMA Regular members and of a nature performed neither by TMA Regular nor Associate members.
