| São Paulo-Illinois Partners, Partners of the Americas The São Paulo-Illinois Partners is a private, volunteer organization established in 1965. It is one of the 60 Partnerships from the international association of Partners of the Americas, operating between US states and states and countries from Latin America and the Caribbean. The states of Illinois and São Paulo share a number of common characteristics. Both have large populations with large, sophisticated industrial and commercial bases. Both states are agricultural giants, while at the same time boasting vibrant, sophisticated world-class cities. Finally, both states have similar concerns that often accompany industrialization: urban congestion and decline, poverty and sometimes inadequate educational systems. Partners of the Americas believes that working together across borders builds understanding and improves the lives of people in the Western Hemisphere . They create opportunities that inspire hope for all and celebrate the richness of our diversity. Some 1500 projects in several areas of activities are carried-out by Partners each year.
