Checklist for the Grantmaker
The following are items to consider when you want to make a grant:
- If you want the contribution to be tax-deductible, verify that the organization
is a 501(c)3 charitable entity.
- If there is a project that appeals to your interest, you can request that the organization
send information to you about the project. At the minimum the information should
include descriptions of the project, goals and results expected. If the project
has been implemented already, you may want to ask for the project progress report.
- If you are considering giving a major contribution, you could also request a meeting
with project staff to gain better insight into the leadership for the project and
the organization managing the project.
- You can also find out if the projects are supported by other individuals or foundations/corporations.
Projects that have many supporters signify high levels of confidence and value of
the project.
