Privacy Polcy

Introduction

This web site, www.globalchicago.org (the "Site") is operated by The Chicago Council on Global Affairs ("the Council" or "We" or "Us"). This Privacy Policy explains our privacy practices with respect to the personal information we collect through the Site. Please also read our Terms of Use, which governs your use of the Site. Please note that this Privacy Policy covers only the Site's information collection practices and does not cover any information collected by us offline.

Collection of Personal Information

In general, you can visit our Site without telling us who you are or giving us personal information. There are times, however, when we may need information from you; for instance, in order to send you our e-mail newsletter.

To access or take advantage of certain features of the Site, however, such as to obtain our e-mail newsletter, we may request that you provide personal information. "Personal Information" is information about you that is associated with your name or identity, such as your name, mailing address, e-mail address, or telephone number. You can choose not to provide us Personal Information, but as a result, you may not be able to obtain certain services offered on the Site.

Parental/Age Advisory

The Site is not directed to children or individuals younger than 13 and we do not knowingly collect or solicit Personal Information from anyone younger than 13 years of age. In the event that we discover that we collected Personal Information about a child or individual younger than 13, we will delete the Personal Information.

Use of Personal Information

If you choose to provide us with any Personal Information, we may store and use that Personal Information for many purposes including to:

  • Provide the feature or service (such as our e-mail newsletter) that you requested, as well as other communications related to that feature or service;
  • Send you e-mail on behalf of the Council;
  • Send you information regarding the Site, including features or special announcements;
  • Verify the accuracy of information you submitted to us;
  • Conduct aggregate research or analyze the performance of our products or services;
  • Monitor, administer or improve the Site or develop future web sites;
  • Audit the use of the Site;
  • Contact you about the Site or inquiries you make through the Site; or
  • For internal business purposes or the purposes disclosed at the time you provide your information.

We will not use the Personal Information you provide to contact you for marketing purposes unrelated to your request unless you agree otherwise.

Disclosure of Personal Information

The Council does not share Personal Information collected through the Site with third parties for their marketing purposes.

The Council may share Personal Information collected through the Site with third parties under the following circumstances:

  • We may share Personal Information about you with third party service providers so that they may perform certain services for us, such as web site hosting, fulfillment, or performing other services on our behalf.
  • We reserve the right to disclose and transfer Personal Information about you including, without limitation, during the course of any due diligence process: (i) to a subsequent owner, co-owner or operator of the Site; or (ii) in connection with a corporate merger, consolidation, restructuring, sale or other business change.
  • We may disclose Personal Information about you: (i) if we are required to respond to subpoenas, court orders, legal process or other valid law enforcement measures; (ii) at the request of governmental authorities conducting an investigation; (iii) when we believe in good faith that the law requires disclosure; (iv) to verify or enforce compliance with the Terms of Use or other policies governing the Site; (v) whenever we believe disclosure is necessary to limit our legal liability or to protect or enforce the rights, interests, or safety of the Site, visitors to the Site or other third parties; or (vi) to respond to an emergency.

Consent to Transfer

The Site is operated in the United States. If you are located in Canada, the European Union or elsewhere outside of the United States, please be aware that any information you provide to the Council will be transferred to the United States. By using the Site or providing the Council with your Personal Information, you fully understand and consent to the transfer, collection, storage and processing of such Information in the United States and potentially the processing of such Information by service providers located outside of the United States.

Security

No data transmission over the Internet or electronic storage of information can be guaranteed to be 100% secure or hacker proof. While we have implemented security measures, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or through the Site.

Links to Third Party Site

The Site may contain links to other web sites or locations that are operated and controlled by third parties ("Third Party Sites"). These Third Party Sites may use their own cookies, web beacons and other technology to independently collect information about you. In addition, these Third Party Sites may solicit Personal Information from you. We make no representations regarding the policies or business practices of such Third Party Sites and have no control over the type or use of the information that is collected by these Third Party Sites.

Acceptance of and Modification to the Privacy Policy

By using this Site, you accept our privacy practices, as outlined in this Privacy Policy. We reserve the right to modify, alter or otherwise update this Privacy Policy at any time. Therefore, you should review this Privacy Policy before submitting any information to the Council through the Site. We will post any new or revised policies on the Site, but we will only use Personal Information about you in accordance with the version of the Privacy Policy that was in effect at the time the Personal Information was collected, unless we receive your consent to the new or revised policy.

Globalchicago.org, and the information, Content, and services it makes available (which, collectively are referred to as the "Site"), is provided to you by The Chicago Council on Global Affairs ("the Council" or "We" or "Us").   7. Notice and Procedure for Making Complaints Regarding Content. The Council respects the intellectual property of others. In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act, the Council has designated a Copyright Agent to receive notice of claims of copyright infringement with respect to Content on the Site. To notify the Council of Content on the Site that you believe infringes your rights, please provide the following information to the Council's Copyright Agent listed below:

Any dispute related to these Terms of Use or the Site shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of Illinois and the United States of America without giving effect to any principles of conflicts of law. Any legal action or proceeding between the Council and you related to these terms of Use or otherwise arising out of usage of this Site shall be brought exclusively in a federal or state court of competent jurisdiction sitting in or having jurisdiction over Cook County, State of Illinois, and you hereby consent and submit to the exclusive personal jurisdiction and venue of such courts.
