"Responding to the Needs of Children Affected by AIDS in India", June 5, 2003

Dr. Sujit Ghosh, senior program officer, South Asia, International HIV/AIDS Alliance, has been working at the Alliance since December 2000. Previously, he worked as an independent consultant on program development and skills building in the field of HIV/AIDS in South Asia for the Alliance and several other international and local agencies.

D. T. Reji Chandra, director, Palmyrah Workers Development Society, has 16 years of development project management experience and has been involved in the formation of development support organizations, networks and community-based development projects. Dr. Ghosh and Mr. Chandra shared their experiences on how communities and local organizations are responding to the impact of HIV on families and children. The speakers drew on their work in Delhi, Tamil Nadu, and Andra Pradesh.

"The Global Response to AIDS featuring Pandemic: Facing AIDS, a documentary featuring personal stories from Thailand and Uganda", May 27, 2003

Sandra Thurman, president, International AIDS Trust, was appointed by President Clinton in 2000 as the first Presidential Envoy for AIDS Cooperation. She held that position while continuing as the director of the Office of National AIDS Policy at the White House, to which the president appointed her in April 1997. In that position, Ms. Thurman directed the U.S. government’s AIDS efforts both domestically and internationally.

Rory Kennedy, is an award-winning producer, director, writer, and co-founder of Moxie Firecracker Films, an independent documentary production company . Kennedy has produced and/or directed award-winning documentaries covering a variety of topics including the global AIDS crisis (Pandemic: Facing AIDS), human rights, domestic abuse, poverty, and drug addiction. She is also on the Board of Directors for a number of nonprofit organizations, has been featured in numerous national publications including The New York Times, The Washington Post and the Los Angeles Times, and has appeared on numerous talk, news and radio programs including The Today Show, CNN and NPR.

"The Role of Pharmaceutical Companies in Addressing Global Health Threats: A Socially Responsible Approach", April 30, 2003

Miles White, CEO, Abbott Laboratories. "Highlight specific examples from Abbott’s work in Africa, India and other parts of the world. His own personal journey as CEO as he is engaging in these issues and traveling around the world".


Vidette Bullock Mixon, Director, Corporate Relations and Social Concerns, United Methodist Pension Fund. “Social Principles of The United Methodist Church”. Also, provided some specific examples of how the General Board engages corporations through dialogue and shareholder resolutions on issues of social and environmental importance. The board has worked with Abbott on the pricing of anti-retrovirus drugs in Africa and has developed an important relationship as the organizations work together on these difficult issues.
